March of the Dungarees 2015

As part of the Queensland Anzac Centenary program, the Queensland Government funded a series of events across South East Queensland from 29 November to
19 December 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the March of the Dungarees.

Congratulations to all involved in commemorating this very special anniversary. The passion and dedication of communities, volunteers and organisations working together ensured the Dungaree experience of 100 years ago was encountered by many. The events also provided an opportunity for the younger generation to reflect and remember those brave individuals who signed up for the unknown.

The March of the Dungarees re-enactment has been transformed into a digital story as part of a State Library of Queensland Q ANZAC 100 initiative, showcasing the courage, sacrifice and duty of 100 years ago.

Call to Arms

This wonderful community event was hosted by the Laidley Historical Society on
29 November 2015, showcasing parades, re-enactments and demonstrations in a number of locations in Laidley.

Demonstration of Support

Supporters of all ages enjoyed two re-enactment events hosted by the Southern Downs Regional Council in Warwick on 11 December 2015. The community participated in the re-enactment march followed by performances in the Town Hall to farewell the recruits as they did 100 years ago.

139 Army Cadet Unit re-enactment march

Stepping off in Warwick on 12 December 2015, 140 cadets aged between 13 and 19 marched 239 kilometres to Brisbane's Anzac Square. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the largest snowball recruitment march in Queensland, a plaque was presented to each community along the original 1915 route.
