Lasting Legacies

Lasting Legacies is the Queensland Anzac Centenary large grants program which provided Queensland communities with grants between $20,001 and $80,000 annually throughout the Anzac Centenary. Applications for the final round of this program have now closed, with successful applicants to be announced in May 2018.

The four successful applicants from round five shared over $190,000 in funding for commemorative projects including an interactive kiosk, interpretive signage and memorial restorations. Learn more about their projects (PDF, 55KB).

Projects funded through Lasting Legacies

Lasting Legacies grants have been awarded to Queensland organisations paying tribute to the state’s contributions during the First World War or another significant military milestone from the past 100 years. While varied in scope, many of these commemorative projects incorporated:

  • historical research and education—digital innovation
  • the acquisition and preservation of war memorabilia
  • the restoration or enhancement of existing memorials and honour boards
  • public commemorative events, arts and culture.

Caring for memorials and honour boards

Across the state, more than 1,300 war memorials commemorate Queensland’s involvement in conflicts dating from the Boer War to the present day. If you’re tasked to care for a memorial, or perhaps seeking funding to restore a memorial during the Anzac Centenary period, please take a moment to read through The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection’s guideline Caring for war memorials (PDF, 4.88MB).

Other grant funding is also available through various local, state and national grant programs.
